Dr. Kesia Smith

Dr. Kesia Smith is a proud product of Selma City Schools and a graduate of Selma High School, Class of 1994. She is the daughter of the late Emma Smith.

Dr. Smith earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama; a Master of Science in Counseling from Alabama State University; an Educational Specialist degree from the University of West Alabama; and a Doctorate in Educational and Organizational Leadership from Samford University.

Dr. Smith began her career with the Dallas County School System in 2000, teaching Kindergarten and First Grade for four years. After earning her counseling degree, she transitioned to Selma City Schools, where she served as a counselor at Cedar Park Elementary, Payne Elementary, R.B. Hudson Middle School, and Selma High School.

Upon completing her doctoral studies, Dr. Smith joined the Lowndes County Public Schools Central Office as the Secondary Instructional Administrator, where she served for three years. She later returned to Selma City Schools, serving as Assistant Principal at R.B. Hudson STEAM Academy and later as Principal of Selma High School.

Dr. Smith is deeply committed to building genuine relationships with families to identify and address the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual challenges that impact student success.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Smith enjoys reading, cooking, and spending quality time with her family. She also serves as Director of the Winston Williams Shelter for the Homeless and volunteers in numerous community service projects through her church, Gospel Tabernacle Selma.

She is the proud mother of a daughter in high school and a son in college.
